August 31st Prayer Blog

All the king’s officials and the people of the royal provinces know that for any man or woman who approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned, the king has but one law: that he be put to death. The only exception to this is for the king to extend the gold scepter to him and spare his life. (Esther 4:11)

Esther trembled and feared for her life when she entered the presence of King Xerxes, the mighty ruler of the Persian empire. Yet he was a mere man. How much more should we tremble at the prospect of entering the presence of Yahweh, the High King of the universe, of everything that is! His holiness is beyond our comprehension, and His power exceeds our imagination. One word annihilates us; He need summon no guard.

How do I dare enter the High King’s presence in prayer? I can enter only because He extends to me the gold scepter of the gospel. He paid a high price – the death of His Son – to purchase the privilege for me. He invites me to enter His inner court and speak to Him. He invites you too. Enter, and speak.

Here are a few topics to discuss in the King’s inner court:

1.  Praise and worship the High King; acknowledge His place in the universe and in your life. Thank Him for welcoming you into His presence.

2.  Lift up students who are returning to school, from elementary school through college. Ask God to give them a vision for their future and to spur them to work diligently and with integrity. Pray that Christian students will put on the whole armor of God and be faithful servants of their Lord at school. Pray too for teachers and parents. Ask the Lord to fill them up with energy and passion for the work He has given them and to fortify them with the wisdom they need every day.

3.  Bring before the throne all the people who heard and responded to the gospel at the Harvest Crusade over the weekend. Pray that they will know the Lord more and more each day through the truth of the Bible and the experience of a changed life.

In Christ,
