Exodus 26:1-37
Pastor Dave explained God’s meticulous instructions for the Tent of Meeting and how many of the details pointed to Jesus and the deliverance he gives. The pictures Dave used in his sermon helped us visualize what the Tent of Meeting looked like. Use your imagination to put yourself in the scene for the purpose of worshiping our Savior …
Outside, the sun is glaring and hot, and the air is filled with the hubbub of the camp. As you enter the Tent of Meeting through the curtain on the east side, you welcome the coolness and the stillness inside. The four layers of tent coverings keep the workaday world out. The only light comes from the lampstand, the 7-branched menorah.* You look up. In the shadows you glimpse the curtain-ceiling high above, fifteen feet above the floor. Looking around, your main impression is the warm glow of gold. The frames and furnishings of the tent are covered with the precious metal. As your eyes adjust to the dim light, you notice the vibrant colors of blue, purple, and scarlet woven into the linen curtains. You admire the cherubim skillfully woven into the veil that blocks the way to the Most Holy Place, where the ark stands. Perhaps they remind you of the cherubim God set as guards after He drove Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. On one day in the year, one man – the Hebrew high priest – is permitted to part the veil and enter the Most Holy Place. He goes, with fear and trembling and with a blood sacrifice, into the very presence of the LORD.
If you have been feeling like an intruder in this sacred place, you need not. Stand amazed! You may enter the Most Holy Place with confidence, at any time, because you are a disciple of the Messiah. Jesus has torn the curtain for you. Kneel by that torn curtain, facing the mercy seat, and worship the King from heaven who spilled his blood to deliver you from the wrath you fully deserve. Praise his awesome name, and thank him.
Calvary Family
Pray that the Lord will be at the center of all the planning and work going on to prepare for Calvary Kids Creativity Camp, June 28 – July 2. Pray that He will guide the leaders of this year’s version of Vacation Bible School and provide everything they need. Diana Aksel, our Children’s Director, has shared with me that a big need is volunteers. As you pray, ask the Lord if He has a role for you to fill. Contact Diana or the church office for more information or to volunteer.
I recently received an e-mail from Saundra and Dick Watson, our retired missionaries who now live in North Carolina. They wrote to say that the story of Calvary’s Journey of Faith to our new building and new worship center have been a blessing and encouragement to them. Their church, Waxhaw Bible Church, is beginning a similar journey. Saundra wrote, “We’re not very big – attendance under 200. Lots of young families with kids. We have the only Awana program in the area, so kids from other churches and the community come too. We have three old portable buildings that are used for Sunday School and Awana classes and that must be replaced.” Ask the Lord to lead and bless the Waxhaw Bible Church in its building campaign.
In Christ,
Carol Gilbert

* I acknowledge that there is disagreement among scholars as to whether the lamps burned at all times or only from evening to morning, depending on whether the word tāmîḏ in Exodus 27:20 is translated continually or regularly.
