May 21 Prayer Blog

This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!  (2 Corinthians 9:12-15)

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)

Trip Report:  Pszczyna, Poland

Tomasz Chylka specifically asked that we relay the message of 2 Corinthians 9:12-15 from his church to Calvary. Thank God for the unity in Christ we share and for the relationships we have developed over the years. They thank God for us, and we thank Him for them. He is the One who causes our hearts to go out to one another.

Ask the Lord to provide the funds the Pszczyna church needs for a larger building and to strengthen them with patience and creativity in using the space they have as they wait. Ask Him to guide every step of their Journey of Faith.

The Chylkas and their church are very engaged in outreach. They have asked us to join them in praying for their next project, “Build with Us,” to be held the week of May 28 – June 2. A German Christian who collects Legos is bringing a truckful of those kid-favorites to Pszczyna. Between 80 and 100 children will build a city with Legos and hear a related Bible lesson each day. Families will be invited to view the completed city at the end of the week.

Trip Report:  Vienna, Austria

Jim and Lynette Hatcher are trusted leaders in their small church in Kagran, a suburb of Vienna, although Jim has stepped out of his formal role as an elder. They have shared with us that the church is in the midst of some serious leadership issues. Jim asks that we pray that this time of trouble would also be a time of great spiritual growth. (You can read the Hatchers’ latest prayer letter here.)

Lynette’s last radiation treatment for breast cancer is tomorrow. Please continue to pray for her as she recovers. She and Jim are traveling later this week to Dublin, Ireland, to spend time with their daughter, son-in-law, and two granddaughters. Pray for sweet family time for them.

As a regional leader for Greater Europe Mission, Jim oversees American missionaries serving in German-speaking and eastern European countries. In his work with the Evangelikale Akademie and the Biblische Ausbildung am Ort, Jim helps equip nationals to serve and lead in local churches. Join the Hatchers in asking the Lord of the harvest to raise up kingdom workers in the field that is Europe.

Trip Report:  (Your daily location here)

Yesterday Pastor Dave shared stories of how he and Carrie transferred a missional mindset from the official trip to their Mediterranean cruise vacation. He reminded us that we are the light of the world … every day, wherever we are. It might be tempting to respond by laying out our own action plan for sharing the gospel with others, relying on our own wisdom and strength. A better idea is to pray, asking God to orchestrate opportunities, to open our eyes to those opportunities, and to give us both the words to say and the courage to say them.

In Christ,
