Sing to the LORD a new song;
sing to the LORD, all the earth.
Sing to the LORD, praise His name;
proclaim His salvation day after day.
Declare His glory among the nations,
His marvelous deeds among all peoples.
For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;
He is to be feared above all gods.
(Psalm 96:1-4)

Calvary is sending a team of nine young adults plus four leaders to minister in Poland July 5-18. Some of you may have contributed financially to the trip; all of us can be praying for the team members and the kingdom work they will be doing.

The team members are Kara Brushwyler, Conner Dyer, Ashley Field, Kim Sams, Kyle Schraeder, Grant Sims, Makayla Slezak, Amy Tebay, and Austin Tebay, led by Todd and Sam Dixon and Anthony and VV Terrones.

Three Polish evangelical churches, including the Pszczyna church pastored by Tomasz Chylka, are running a youth camp July 9-16 as an outreach. About half of the campers will be students from these churches, and the rest will be friends and acquaintances they have invited. Young people from America are a “draw” for the camp. Students who would normally have no interest in a Christian summer camp are attracted by the chance to meet Americans and practice their English. The goal of the camp is to share the gospel with nonbelievers and encourage and strengthen the faith of the believers.

At the end of camp, the Calvary team will participate in an evangelism event in Pszczyna or the hometown of one of the other sponsoring churches. The event will feature music, a wordless drama, a message in Polish, and street evangelism – all designed to share the gospel and connect people with the local church. Todd and Anthony will also each preach a message at the Chylkas’ church in Pszczyna.

Here are some suggestions to get you started in prayer:

Pray that the Calvary team will be a genuine help and blessing to the Polish believers they are visiting and serving with.

Pray that the Lord will use each team member for His glory. Pray that they will honor Him in every action, word, and attitude. Ask God to help them as they prepare to share their testimonies, articulating (perhaps for the first time) how He has been at work in their lives.

Pray that the love of Christ would be evident in the friendships formed between students.

Pray for good health and safety for the team.

Ask the sovereign Lord to protect each team member from the attacks of Satan during these final weeks of preparation and during the trip.

Ask the Lord to be working in the hearts of the Polish students He is bringing to the camp, preparing them to hear and respond to the word of God.

Todd is the main speaker at the camp. Ask for divine wisdom and guidance for him as he prepares his messages.

Pray for heartfelt, Spirit-led times of worship.

Pray that the camp and the evangelism event will expand the kingdom of God.

Pray for unity and mutual encouragement among team members.

Pray that the team can be flexible and thankful in all circumstances, especially when things don’t go according to plan, trusting that God is in control of the details.

Ask the Lord to use this experience in a powerful way in the lives of the nine young people from our congregation. Specifically, ask Him to use it to speak to any He is calling into missions work.

In Christ,
Carol Gilbert
