Exodus 12:1-28
The tenth and final plague would bring death to the firstborn in every household. Only the blood of an unblemished lamb daubed on the doorframe of a house would protect the family within. As John the Baptist, by divine inspiration, understood, the blood of the Passover lamb pointed forward to the blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus. How appropriate that we heard this passage preached on a communion Sunday! Every time we participate in communion, we remember the ultimate Passover of God. Take time today before the Lord to thank Him for saving you from the destroyer. Meditate on the blood of the unblemished, innocent, holy Lamb that marks you as one who belongs to God.
Pastor Dave taught that a strong emphasis in this passage is God’s command to pass along observance of the Passover from generation to generation. This day shall be for you a memorial day, and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord; throughout your generations, as a statute forever …(v14) Dave asked: Are we passing on the gospel, the complete fulfillment of the Passover, to the generations that follow us? Do we repeat it, explain it, stress its great value in the raising of our children? Or do we adopt the laissez-faire attitude of the culture, believing kids have to find their own way? Ask the Lord to open your eyes to a specific opportunity this week to influence a young person in your life and to give you the words to say to pass along the truth of the gospel.
In Christ,
