1 Corinthians 13:1-13

It is amazing to realize that the great King of the universe wants us to know Him and His ways. As Pastor Dave taught yesterday, He gives His children spiritual gifts so that we, as a body, can catch a glimpse of Him in spite of our limitations. Praise God for reaching out to us in this way.

Spend a few minutes in the Lord’s presence anticipating the coming of “the perfect,” looking forward to Jesus Christ’s return when we will know fully, face to face.

Pastor Dave paraphrased Paul’s message as, “Stop bickering, church!” Ask yourself:  What bickering or divisiveness do I engage in? When have I been guilty of arrogance, rudeness, irritability, resentment? If the Holy Spirit reveals something to you, take the time to explicitly repent and ask forgiveness.

Examine your motives for serving – for exercising your spiritual gifts – at Calvary. This week’s Scripture passage clearly teaches that love for the Lord and His church is the only acceptable motive. Unworthy motives include pride or ego, a feeling of duty or obligation, habit, a desire to be thanked. Lord, don’t let my service be useless in Your eyes. Increase my love for my brothers and sisters as I serve them.

 Calvary Family

Fifteen-year-old Rosie Martin experienced a seizure, fall, and resultant head injury last Friday. All the tests in the ER were normal, but Rosie needs to see a neurologist this week. “Please pray for healing from seizures and the concussion, for wisdom for the medical team, and for us as we care for her,” Rosie’s mother, Deni, writes.

Faith Greene’s cardiologist said, “Wow, Faith! It looks like you have a new heart. It’s perfect!” Join the Greenes in thanking and praising God for the good result from her surgery. They appreciate their church family’s prayers and love.

Thank God for our new associate pastor! Be praying for him, his wife, and their three children (ages 16, 15, and 12) in this time of transition. They must navigate the announcement of their departure at their current church this week and begin laying plans for a big move. This will be an exciting, but challenging, time.

Lift up our missionaries Jim and Lynette Hatcher, who are halfway through their 6-month sojourn in the States. Their travel schedule to visit supporting churches and individuals is grueling. For example, they are currently in Florida but leave shortly on a road trip to Maine. They will be with us Nov. 7 through Dec. 20.

At “Back to Sunday School Night” yesterday, Diana Aksel shared that she has many openings to fill in the Children’s Department. She said she has a place for someone with just about any gift. Ask the Lord if He is calling you to serve in this ministry that is so crucial to our church life.

In Christ,
