For who scorns the day of small things? (Zechariah 4:10)
“Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much.” (Matthew 25:23)

Am I humble enough to accept small assignments from God? Or am I holding out for the chance to hit a home run for God – preferably a grand slam?

Hearing about some big thing a person has done for God – moving to a closed Muslim country as a stealth missionary or adopting six orphans – can stir ego or guilt in me and make me think that I should be doing a big thing too. But if God is calling me to do a small thing – caring for a child, sharing God’s love in word and deed with a neighbor – who am I to scorn it?

I need to ask God what His purposes are for me today and in this season of my life. Then I need to be faithful to obey, whether the assignment is big or small.

Here are other suggested prayer topics for this week:

1.  Pray that the fear of God will fall on our fellow Americans as it did the sailors aboard ship with Jonah. Pray that we will understand deep in our souls that God is real, that He is powerful, and that He might not be pleased with how we are living our lives. The fear of the LORD precedes repentance.

2.  Ask God to accomplish His purposes at FunFest on Saturday. One purpose might be drawing neighbors to return to Calvary on a Sunday morning to hear the gospel. Another might be strengthening families as we provide a safe and wholesome (as opposed to dark and scary) place for them to enjoy being together.

3.  Workers are still needed for FunFest – for prep work on Wednesday night, Friday night, and Saturday morning as well as staffing the event on Saturday evening. If you have not signed up to help, ask the Lord if that is something He wants you to do.

4.  Pray that our pastors will never become isolated and feel unable to share their struggles because we have put them on pedestals.

5.  Lift up our high school students. Ask the Lord to give them eyes that see others’ needs and hearts that are eager to serve.

6.  Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. (James 1:19-20)  Lord, empower me to live out this verse today!

In Christ,
