October 27 Prayer Blog

Posted by Carol Gilbert on

It is good to praise the LORD and make music to Your name, O Most High, to proclaim Your love in the morning and Your faithfulness at night.      (Psalm 92:1-2)

My “prayer language” is not music, but I can still apply these verses to my prayer life.  By proclaiming God’s love in the morning, I remind myself of God’s intent and motive as He deals with me and all His people.  I can look ahead to the day and declare that whatever I will encounter is filtered through His love.  At the end of the day, I can look back with thankfulness on how God faithfully worked in my life that day.  May we lift our souls to the Lord in anticipation every morning and then in reflection every evening.

Here are some suggestions to get you started in prayer this week:

1.  Cory and D.J. Hovivian and their children have been serving with Greater Europe Mission in Ireland for six months now.  They have settled in and begun to establish relationships with people in their community.  Please pray that, as these relationships develop, the Lord will use the Hovivians to show people the difference between institutional religion and a personal walk with Him.  Pray for great discernment for the Hovivians to know when, what, and how much to share.

2.  Andrew Mahler reports that 12 teenagers new to Calvary attended the student outreach event held October 18, along with 43 Calvary teens.  Three of those twelve students attended the high school group the following Wednesday.  Praise God that a dozen teenagers had the opportunity to hear the gospel – perhaps for the first time.  Pray that they will respond in faith and then grow in faith.

3.  Pray that many families from our neighborhood will attend Fall FunFest on Friday evening and that they will feel warmly welcomed by the Calvary people they meet.  Ask the Lord to draw those visitors who don’t know Him back for church on Sunday morning.

4.  Petition our Heavenly Father for health and bountiful energy for all the FunFest workers this week.  Ask Him to smooth out all the logistics and final details.  Pray that everyone working Friday night will exude the love of Christ to everyone they meet.

5.  Almost fifty children signed up for the Christmas children’s choir and began their rehearsals yesterday.  Pray that, as they prepare to sing for the English and Chinese congregations on December 7, they will understand that the purpose is to bring praise and glory to God, not themselves.

6.  Pray that you will be a help, not a hindrance, to others in the body.  Ponder before the Lord the things you do and say that might be a hindrance and what things would be a help.

7.  It has been two years since Greg Hodgson received his first heart transplant and one year since the transplant failed and he went on the artificial heart.  Join the Hodgsons in thanking God for preserving Greg’s life over these two years.  Pray for Greg as he prepares to re-enter the hospital in the next month for plasmapheresis to remove rejection-inducing antibodies from his blood and to await a new donor heart.

In Christ,
